Birthright
There were lies which bound me
And yet, I tried
To please you
To believe the poison you fed me
I was never good enough
I was ugly
I was fat
I was not strong enough
My world was turned to night
endlessly painful
unescapable
Devoid of love or light
Why did I believe you
love you
trust you
Instead of leave you
When my tears went away
I was alone
I was alive
Able to meet a new day
I found myself bathed in light
held in love
accepted
God's own child, my real birthright
