Big Business takes a step down
Harold Waldon grew up in North Alabama. A small town boy with the American dream, to have a good job and a happy family, and a nice place to raise them.
He started his career in the grocery business a stock boy, and went into management, and soon into distribution.
The growth of Wal-Mart Supercenters in the early to mid nineties affected some already major grocers like Bruno's, Delchamps, and Albertsons. As these businesses struggled to stay a float, Harold Waldon was looking out for his future and decided to buy a convenience store in 1994.
The father of two beautiful girls, a loving and supportive wife, this country boy was putting it all on the line to be self employed. He bought the store, it was a mess cleaning took weeks and he and his family basically lived there while the work was being done.
Soon Opening the first of Ten stores under the name Stop N Shop Grocery Deli and Gas.
Harold is not amazing because he opened his own business and has built something that will maintain growth through time. He is amazing because he knew what he wanted to do and not only did it but became the master of it.
He is not Donald Trump nor is he a multi millionaire but he makes profit and continues to grow. He changes with time and keeps technology as a tool to make his business better and more secure.
On the completion of his second Store was the footing for being a success. He built a store in an area that produces over 1 million dollars in grocery and deli sales alone. He pumps millions of gallons of gas weekly.
Better than his great business knowledge and awesome ability to maintain a small business that gives back to the community, Harold is a first responder when tragedy hits. During Hurricane Ivan, Harold and semi trucks full of Ice, water and Gasoline delivered immediately so that the people of Mt Vernon Alabama could have at least the necessities to survive daily.
Harold Waldon a success in more ways than one. If you are ever in Mobile Alabama look for Stop and Shop and get yourself a Fried chicken dinner and a Ice Cold Coca Cola.
