Poetry: Letting go

by Aesha Munaf

Created on: June 11, 2008

I almost
ran after you,
to remind you,
of our first kiss,
the way our lips had melted together
and the way our tongues
had entertwined...
but i let you go..

I almost grabbed your hand
and held it to my chest,
to see if my heartbeat could
convey whatever i couldnt,
to see if you would take me back..
But i didn't
I let you go.

I almost bent down on my knees
ready to grovel,
ready to cry,
to plead and cajole,
to let you know how hard it is for me,
how much i want you abck,
but i stopped myself
and drank my tears..
and smiled weakly
and said goodbye like a sensible
young girl,
and let you go..

I let you go physically, my love..
but you are still in my heart.
Trapped, inside..
And you are mine..
