Candle magic is the art of using the power of fire combined with the influence of colours and positive thought to affect a change in the world around you.

The light of a single naked flame can help you to relax your mind and aid meditation or focus your mind in visualisation techniques. The power kick it gives magical work cannot be overlooked either.

The colours of the candles themselves are important in candle magic, for each colour has its own energy frequency which influences the power you are raising. The correct coloured candle can make or break a spell. Get it right and your spell has a greater chance of success.

Since the first flame flickered into existence all those eons ago fire has been regarded as sacred. Its mysterious quality has been revered and used by all cultures and religions across the world.

For example, the Ancient's burned torches to invoke their Gods and Goddess', and used fire to honour their Holy days in the form of huge bonfires.

Modern day pagans still use and respect fire in the same way.

Religions throughout the world use fire in the form of candle light, to symbolise an act of devotion to this or that deity, or to honour the souls of dearly departed loved ones.
Candle magic is one of the oldest, easiest, and probably most effective forms of magic there is, as it is the safest way of harnessing the power of fire.

To follow is a list of basic colours, along with their meaning and tips on how to use them to produce the best effect.

WHITE

White is the balance of all colours, so therefore can be used as a substitute when the correct coloured candle cannot be found.

In their own right, white candles can be used in spells for new beginnings, meditation, healing, peace, purity, protection, enlightenment and truth seeking.

Try thinking of a question you would like the answer to. Then, while glaring into the flame of a white candle, allow your body to relax and your mind to clear, as you take slow deep breaths.

Imagine you are surrounded by a brilliant white light. Allow this light to envelope and infuse all your limbs.

Slowly images will spring to mind. Allow these images to unfold naturally; don't try to influence them as you are trying to achieve subconscious answers to your question not forced ones.

Later write down what you saw. The images may not make any sense right now but you may be pleasantly surprised in the near future.

YELLOW

Candles of this colour are used for communication, confidence, wisdom, creativity, activity, visions and concentration.
