Animal facts: Horses

The Irish horse stands majestically in gigantic warlike commanding appearance, with remarkable powerhouse strength, and swift in battle combining their strength with keen sight and sensitive trained instinct, The history of Irish, English and American hoses is shrouded in cavalry myth and legend which pre date Christianity; the wild west is centrefold of the horse kingdom, while in middle England it was different story, more entwined with superstitious practice and conquest, their stories are found in Irish literature and English artwork.

Depicting the shires, as the soldiers and farmhand best friend, the legends with cowboys and Indian stands ungainly trustworthy with those on reservation, the horse is not such a ferocious beast but can resort to kicking and even biting but to be honest biting is not usually a characteristic of horse unless provoked, but if found in the wilds, they do need to be tame, and of course they are remarkable creatures by nature.

The wooden horse is an historical legend which duped the Trojans into thinking it was a wonderful surprise gift from their enemies, hence we are all much wiser and alert to suspicious people bearing gifts. But the horse is a domesticated animal used in farm work to do ploughing and pulling heavy objects, the life expectancy of a horse is about twenty five years, the developing term for horses are classified with various stages of growth, a foal is a horse less than one year old, a yearling is between one and two years old, but a colt is a young male that is older, and the mare is a female horse about the same age as the colt, in between is the filly which is less than four years old, which leads us on to a stallion that is not castrated, the castrated male is called the gelding.

But their very size combined with some wide nose ferocious breathing will discourage potential intruders. While they will endeavour to be a form of transport for their owners they also carry a great physical threat, the likes of which car manufactures tends to use describing the performance of engines, the world's largest horse is 19.2 hands.

This kind of war horse is epitomizes with prolific courage, and renowned patience. But we know that the largest horses in the world belong to the English breed Shire. These horses are often taller than 6ft and reach a weight of one tone. Horses are not toys are trained pets; they were originally trained for battle and a reliable form of transportation during the coach days of the sixteen century.
