The car drives up the dusty path
cheers growing louder in the waiting crowds
dusty feet, hungry stomachs all forgotten
women dancing, singing songs with passion
hope abounds for all, a new dawn on the horizon
The politician steps out to the heat and dust
waves to the crowds, a blur of happy faces
His mind is busy, lots to do, many changes to make
Promises he has made, many oaths he has taken
His country will not want, there will be food for all
That was then, this is now
the politician in his limousine bored of it all
His coffers overflow, his sprees never ending
Corrupt officials line every office he ever set up
His promises only a long list of lies now
His people fight amongst each other
Hiding from place to place lest they be killed
No police to help, no controls set up
All hopes dead, only a struggle to stay alive
The African politician, just a mask behind the man
Let his people down, let his country down
How will he look at himself again?
When the day of reckoning comes to haunt him
how many hands of revenge will tear at him
As he goes down no amount of money will be able to save him
