WE WERE SOLDIERS
Inspired by the movie of the same name.
We marched into a foreign camp,
Followed orders we were given
Carried on through cold and damp;
Members of a greater vision.
We were valiant, we were brave;
Stood by our brothers,
Yet our own lives we saved.
Now we're older
Looking backward toward the day
We were soldiers,
We were soldiers.
Everything we sought to gain
We did for our country's glory
Unaware as what we gave
Turned into another story.
When the cease fire brought us home
We'd never be the same
Imagine walking into the sun
After crawling through the grave.
In the hang fires where we grew older
We were soldiers,
We were soldiers.
In our minds we did so well;
We kept ourselves alive.
Though words would never tell
All the wounds we held inside,
As the sunset moved us forward,
We were soldiers,
We were soldiers.
back to bridge:
We were valiant, we were brave,
Stood by our brothers,
Yet our own lives we saved.
Now we're older,
Yet we still recall the day;
We were soldiers,
We were soldiers.
refrain to the end:
Welcome home... welcome home... welcome home...
A memorial to the Vietnam era veterans, who gave all for our freedom:
You are not forgotten.
