Whether you are talking about James Kirk or William Shatner, the are both Masters of the Universe, at least my universe.

I have always had a big crush on Captain Kirk, not on William Shatner but on Captain Kirk. He is such a manly man. He's never been afraid of a Klingon, Romulan or giant amoeba. He took them all on. He is the Universal ladies' man, a girl on every planet. In fact, it is a miracle he never caught some weird alien STD. The later Captains were all okay for the most part but they never even came close to the charm and raw testosterone of James T. Kirk.

Jean Luc Picard is good officer but he is a little too politically correct for my liking. Jean Luc only had two girlfriends the whole series, Gosh; Kirk had two in an episode. And Kirk would never have been taken by the Borg, NO WAY. He would have bashed their silicon chipped heads together, boffed the queen and would still have had enough energy to insult Spock and tease Bones.

Voyager's Katharine Janeway seems like a nice lady but she is all about negotiating, and hardly the galactic hussy that the Star Trek audience craves. I mean really, her biggest romance was with a hologram (albeit a cute Irish Hologram). Where is the risky fun in that? She did sexy it up Ripley style(remember Sigourney Weaver in Aliens) when she took on the giant virus, but nothing like James T. when he took on the giant desert lizard.

Now Jonathan Archer is a bit more old school Star Trek. He wasn't above taking on a lovely alien or two and was pretty good about giving it to Earth's enemies. In fact, that one torture scene when Archer needed Xindi info was worse than any Kirk inquisition. The only problem with Archer is that he is too much like Kirk and no one can be Captain Kirk except Captain Kirk.

Sisko is not worth discussing, it's not even a starship, it's a space station! Even Q considered him weak and told him so in an episode.

So the question is "Should William Shatner return as Captain Kirk in the new Star Trek move?" The answer is absolutely! There is no other Captain that defines Star Trek as James Tiberius Kirk does, and there is not another actor in the world that can play him. William Shatner is James Kirk and James Kirk is William Shatner, and that my friends is the way it should be.

I will leave you with my favorite Kirk Quote:

"No, I'm from Iowa, I only work in outer space" (Kirk in Star Trek IV)

- How can you not LOVE this character and this man!
