The power of positive thinking and attitude

It is as though the things they say and fear become self fulfilling prophecies. Observing people like this over a period of years it is plain to see their lives are a constant downward spiral. Medicine has also observed the patients with little support and great fear and negativity surrounding their health heal much slower and generally have more complications.

On the other hand there are those people, who in spite of circumstances keep a positive outlook on life. These are the people that somehow are happy and fulfilled with far less money, prestige and honor in their lives. They continue to overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles and find joy in the success they achieve. We hear statements like this from these individuals: "Things will look up. I believed that this would work out. Life has a way of turning out well." These people seem to find success in their lives and are happy and full of life. They are able to tackle life's challenges and continue to progress in an upward spiral.

How does one learn to change their thoughts, to find the positive in life the silver lining in the clouds encountered. Discipline of thought, conscious focus on the good, replacing fearful thoughts with hopeful ones. For some people this is no challenge at all, for others it requires a total revamping of their way of thinking. Affirmations are one step in the right direction. Saying out loud that you are a worthy person, loving person and a good person will begin to have an effect on your perception. Of course you must begin with small steps. If a person is filled with self hatred and self loathing they will not be able to accept a broad and sweeping statement. Small beginnings are essential, you must be able to believe what you are telling yourself. A simple statement such as I am worthy of good treatment is a great place to start. As you repeat this to yourself, your mind hears this and the power of the thought begins to take hold. When someone treats you in an unkind way your mind responds by thinking, "I don't deserve that". As you believe you are not deserving of bad treatment you will accept less and less of it.

What is needed is a plan. If you are fearful of the economy and of not having enough to care for yourself and your family, you will worry about it. Find a loving statement such as, "The universe/God will meet my needs" and every time you catch yourself worrying about lack think that thought. It is basic behavior modification, the more you substitute the thought
