As Americans we have be given a rare gift, the gift of freedom. This is a gift that came at the highest cost. Over the centuries millions have given their lives for this country and its people. Our ancestors fought long sea voyages, illness, hunger, poverty and obstacles we can't imagine to form this country. And ever since the brave people of America have died for it.
When our country was founded the freedom that the settlers discovered was unpresidented.
To be able to worship and marry as a person chooses, to be able to open a businees, build a house and form governments was something worth the trip. Those settlers banded together to keep their freedoms available when they were infringed upon and as Americans we have the duty of carring on the responsibility.
Today we take our freedom for granted. We are so absorbed in our own lives we forget the blessings we have. In a society more obsessed about who has the better car, house, boat and newest gadget to hit the market, we are losing sight of what is really important. Society is more concerned with being the world leader but not how we get there. When you compare America to other countries take a moment and think what it would be like to live there. Would you be accepted or would you have to hide in terror.
We as a nation have so much. We have the choice of how we want to live our lives. We are born with the right to live and be free. Our children can be in any profession they choose, they can go to whatever school they choose. We can walk down the street and not have to worry about being killed for our personal opinions. We are so blessed and yet we fail to see it.
If I were to list our freedoms and their benefits it would take days, instead we should think of what we could lose. The right to live, speak, vote, have a family, dream. The results would be catastrophic if we did not have the brave men and women who defend this country. What we take for granted everyday other countries still strive for. There are millions in this world who would give anything to raise their families and work here. It is humbling to think of all the people in this world want is the freedom to live and worship.
We are all guilty. We all want the per verbal "American Dream". There is nothing wrong having goals and dreams. This country was founded by those who had an impossible dream. Dreams are part of what makes us a great nation. But we need to remember how the right to the "American Dream" became possible. As a society we owe it ourselves to remember our freedoms and how they came about. I for one will get down on my knees and thank GOD I am an American
