A country divided: Political tensions building in America

by Matthew Scott

Created on: June 10, 2008

This country's politics is quite divisive; due to this, we are divided. But why are we divided? Sure, some may ostensibly support the occupation of Iraq and, generally, the foreign policy of the past half century. Some may look at pro-life advocates in derision. I would say, however, that this division, despite true political tensions that do exist, is false and constructed by puppeteers.

Let us examine this supposed left vs right paradigm. What is the right as of now? From what I understand, the right, being conservative, is supposed to represent and maintain some sort of homeostasis. To be a conservative means, by definition, to be one that conserves and preserves. Now, the so-called "right," due to one party's claim of them, even though they ought to conserve and so forth, have largely repudiated and opted for drastic change, though such change is in the guise of "the war on terror." Consider that we no longer have Habeas Corpus, Posse Comitatus, and basic fourth amendment protections. Now, would it not be proper for conservatives to preserve the Constitution? Indeed.

Let us examine the left now. The apparent left, represented largely by one party, is supposed to represent change and at the very least, piece meal social engineering, effects generally prevailing with the aid of democratic government. But, as evidenced by the US speaker of the House's intention to bring back a vote for a Columbia "free trade" agreement when the next Congress commences, one must wonder if change and methodically and prudent engineering and exploration should occur. Much money now flows to the left because corporate power has read the tea leaves and has divined that the left is ascendant. I suspect, though am not entirely convinced yet, that the left, much as the right, shall be bamboozled by their party.

I think this is all a dog and pony show. Why, for example, does abortion and gays and other stuff of secondary importance emerge over and over again while the national debt, unfunded liabilities, and awful foreign policy prevail without as much as a glance? The answer is somewhat convoluted and does deserve detail but I infer, basically, that consolidated corporate media enjoys salacious and easy to produce "news" over other "stuff" (such as exploration of impeachment and the effects and even presence of the military industrial complex-do understand that General Electric, major war player, OWNS NBC....conflict of interest?) and such insoluble "wedge issues" as gay marriage. Really,
