The myths and truths about rape

by no one in particular

Created on: June 10, 2008

Rape is not about sex. Rape is about anger, control and violent aggression expressed sexually. Rape is defined as sexual intercourse forced on a person without his or her permission. Sadly in this day and age the vast majority of rapes go unreported, statistics claim that 1 in 3 women will endure rape in their lifetime and 1 in 6 men. There is still much shame surrounding this crime, resulting in few cases being reported and fewer still successfully prosecuted. Sexual battery and assault continue to go unreported further reflecting the secrecy and shame of the victims of these crimes. He is indifferent the victim and pays little attention to her pain and suffering as her feelings and experience mean nothing to him, his focus is his own anger.

Power rape is the way that men who experience feelings of inadequacy, fear, and perhaps are weak in their relationships seek to feel powerful. These are the men that spend time fantasizing about the act, finding the "right" victim and are rarely satisfied by the behavior leading them to search for the next conquest. In this rape the focus is on control rather than violence and minimal force is
