All time favorite sports

There are times when you are the only one around or close enough to see what happens. A lot of golfers take mulligans and are lenient with the rules. Our group was fairly strict. I know there were several times when we found someone to fill in for someone in our foursome. They would tell us they shoot in the mid 40's for 9. They would play with us and find out that we were stricter with the rules. They would shoot in the 100's and be worn out after 36 holes.

These days I basically go out one night a week after work and play 9. I take about 3-5 vacation days a year and play 18. I usually find someone to play with on the vacation days. It is still a fun game to play although it's no where near as fun as the early days when the foursome was together.

I may have taken up golf earlier but my parents gave me the impression that it was a rich man's game. That is not true. In my area of north central Indiana you can walk 9 holes for $8-$10. You can play 18 with a cart for $18-$28. Compare that with bowling and you are about even. Bowling costs around $10 for 3 games. Basically you get 2 hours of entertainment for bowling and 2 hours of entertainment for 9 holes of golf for about the same price. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy bowling. I also realize that there are cheaper sports out there, but to say golf is only for the rich is an inaccurate statement.

For those thinking about taking up golf, I strongly encourage you to play. Find a friend or two or three and enjoy nature and fellowship. You have the potential to have the times of your life and learn some life lessons as you play.
