The mix of Jack Black, Dreamworks Animation and Kung Fu is a perfect match. If you are a frequent viewer of Dreamworks animated movies you will certainly add this to the top of the list of a must see. I just took my two kids who were at their first movie ever and they enjoyed it going "Hiy Yah" the whole day.
The story is about a giant panda named Po who learns to save the day and become the next dragon warrior of, played by the funny and always animated Jack Black. Po is a clumsy Panda who enjoys food and who works with his strange father as makers of the finest noodles in all of the village. Po enjoys his work despite loving and dreaming about the art of Kung Fu and the village's most famous Kung Fu masters the Furious Five and their teacher and mentor Shifu. The problem with his admiration is he lacks the physique that most Kung Fu dragon warrior posses.
With a twist of fate or imagination however you see it the current master of Kung Fu, Dogway a laid back but cool turtle, must elect a new Dragon Master the highest of all Kung Fu mastery and Po becomes the appointed next Kung Fu master. Once selected as dragon warrior he or she must fulfill their destiny to save the village from evil that comes its way and to protect the ancient scrolls that only a dragon warrior must read. Of course, Po is not up to the part as he become the student of another Kung Fu master, Shifu a raccoon, played by the legendary Dustin Hoffman. Shifu laughs at the challenge and mocks Po as the next Kung Fu master because he mistrust the vision that his master Dogway has beset to him.
Then the vision of Dogway comes true as one of Shifu old student's and adopted son Tai Long that was once promised the role as the next dragon master but never was appointed by Dogway. Tai Long breaks out of his maximum security prison that he was banished too and now Tai Long is coming back to claim his own destiny of becoming the most powerful Kung Fu master ever and the next true Dragon Warrior. Once the news spreads, Shifu must train Po regardless of what he believes in his talents with the help of the famous other five Kung Fu students of Shifu.
The Furious Five consist of a snake named Viper, a tiger named Tigris, a monkey named Monkey, a crane named Crane and a mantis named Mantis that help protect Shifu the sacred scrolls and the rest of the village from evil that comes their way. The five and Shifu try to help Po get trained quickly despite their own collective belief that they are the only people that can save the village from Tai Lung.
The movie is great from start to finish with the action of Kung Fu and the hilarious antics Jack Black brings to most of the roles he plays. The supporting cast of voices to this Kung Fu Panda is not sub par by no mean as already mentioned Dustin Hoffman, Angelina Jolie, Lucy Lue, Seth Rogan, Ian McShane and Jackie Chan to name most that joined Jack Black in this next big hit.
The movie is really about believing in yourself despite what others think and the message comes clear once everyone believes that Po is the next Kung Fu master. The transition to regular noodle panda to Kung Fu Panda is a trip that anyone watching can relate to and no mater what size or shape someone may be their dreams of becoming someone special can come true. A great message to send kids and viewers of Kung Fu Panda. If you want to learn more check out more fun stuff about Kung Fu Panda at kungfupanda.com.
