Lice can be a very annoying problem to deal with. If your child has recently come down with lice, there is a good chance that you may be able to get rid of lice with a natural home remedy. Keep in mind, however, that your child's lice might not necessarily be gone just because you have killed all of the lice. There is a possibility that the lice may have laid their nits, or eggs, in your child's scalp. In order to prevent the eggs from hatching and causing the lice to reoccur, it is important to make sure that you get rid of them. Here are some of the different natural ways to get rid of lice nits.
Purchase a Nit Comb Before Anything Else
The first thing that you will want to do is purchase a nit comb. It is the most popular option for removing nits. However, keep in mind that when you use a nit comb, you will need to look very closely and probably repeat the process several times because it is not uncommon for people to miss nits. Since removing nits just with a nit comb can be a bit difficult, remember that there are a variety of other things that you can do to make removing nits with a nit comb easier for yourself.
Use Conditioner to Get Rid of the Nits
The most popular natural way to get rid of lice nits is to use conditioner and a nit comb. All that you need to do is apply the conditioner to the entire head of hair, not missing any single area. Then find all of the nits in your child's hair. Using a wide toothed comb, remove them from the head. Not only is the most effective way to get rid of lice nits, but it is also probably the most inexpensive way as well. You will want to try this method at least several times in the span of a few days, in order to ensure that you get all of the nits out.
Rinse the Hair With Vinegar to Get Rid of the Nits
A very well known way to remove lice nits from the head is to make a solution of half vinegar and half water. You can either rinse the hair with this solution or you can allow the solution to soak into the hair for about an hour with a shower cap on. The reason that this is known to work is because it will help loosen the eggs. When you are finished, use a nit comb to remove the nits.
Apply Oil to the Head to Get Rid of the Nits
If you are unable to get rid of the nits by using the other methods which were mentioned, you may want to save this one as your last resort. The reason is because oil tends to be a lot more difficult to get out of the hair than both vinegar and conditioner. However, all that you need to do is put out onto the scalp, rub in very well and then rinse it out. Be sure to use the nit comb. The good thing about using oil is that the nits should slide off the slide off pretty easily.
These are just some of the many different things that you can do to get rid of nits. Although there are many different lice products on the market which may also work, keep in mind that they are not necessarily healthy, as they tend to contain various chemicals. Also keep in mind that kerosene, which has long been known as a "cure" for lice, should never be tried at home, as it is incredibly dangerous.
