It is now time to set aside that one day a year, Father's Day, to honor our dads, grandfathers and the father of the children we love so much. There are many ways to let those special men in our lives know how much we love and admire them. One way of doing this is by giving dad a gift. What should I get him this year? Whatever you decide on, keep it personal, something he would want or could use. Here are a few ideas:
The gift most dads would want the most is to spend some quality time with their children. Let dad decide how he wants to spend that time with you and have fun. Whether it is a day of fishing, going to a museum, or staying home and watching television - as long as he is enjoying his time with you, it is the perfect gift for him on Father's Day.
Dad would enjoy a nice meal with his loved ones. Breakfast, lunch or dinner doesn't matter, as long as he decides where and what he wants to eat. He may want to go out or have a nice home cooked meal. Either way, make him the center of attention. Propose a toast, even if it is with a sippy cup, and let that special dad know how much he is loved - not just on Father's Day, but all year round.
If your dad loves sports, tickets to see his favorite team or event would be a great gift for him on Father's Day. Don't just give him one, though. Go along with him, if possible, and enjoy the time together. This will give him to memories to treasure - getting the gift and having fun with the one who gave it to him.
It is usually a good idea to stay away from anything that reminds him of work, but if your dad is do-it-yourselfer or loves tinkering with that ancient hot rod in the garage, then a tool set or other gadgets would be appreciated. Include in the box a note explaining how you would love to help him use them the first time he uses them. If this gift is coming from a little one, this would be an excellent time for Dad to explain the difference in a hammer and a wrench. Every time he uses them, he will remember Father's Day and know he is loved.
If your dad has a special hobby, your Father's Day gift could be a something that would make that hobby more enjoyable. If he loves cooking, a cutlery set or a special apron would work well. Books are great for the avid readers - pick one out by his favorite author or a genre you know he enjoys. If he loves games, you might buy him a new one. Be sure to offer to spend time with him as he uses his Father's Day gift.
A wallet is also a good choice for a Father's Day gift. Don't
