Poetry: Sleep

by Jon Coe

Created on: June 09, 2008

Sleep is my most humble domain
without it, I think I would go insane
Sifting through my troubles and my woes
resting peacefully, balancing highs and lows

Drifting off, eyes heavy from the day
clouds roll and trees begin to sway
Through layers of darkness, I softly glide
into realms of light, deep inside

Tossing-turning, mountain tops full of snow
rivers running still, around rocks, doth flow
Deer scamper under brightly moon-lit skies
huddled softly, beneath the ifs' and whys'

Some are restless, some will snore
some will pass away, to breathe no more
But in the gently darkened hue of night
spell bound, entranced, our spirits take flight

Silence ticking, alarm clocks clicking
babies sleep, waking, gently kicking
Cats purr, some will stir before the dawn
sun pouring light, the night will mourn

Cockerels crowing, new day is dawning
we wake, with stretching arms, yawning
Refreshed, caressed by dream and what we've seen
another day to dwell on life, upon this earthly scheme
