How to avoid online business scams

When I first started using the internet a few years ago, my two children were still in grade school. One of the first things I started doing as a brand new World Wide Web user was to search for jobs that could be done from home. At that time, everything that I found in my limited searches seemed too good to be true, so my work outside the home continued, along with the guilt trip that flooded in at almost every waking moment. That trip that many parents, especially single moms, experience from feeling they aren't spending enough time with their children.

It was not until a couple of years ago that I found my first legitimate work at home job. Of course by then one child had finished school, but I gave it a try anyway. To my amazement, this seemed to open up the floodgates of potential legitimate work at home jobs, which apparently have been around for years. It seems my searches had been in all the wrong places! This is not to say the scams aren't still out there, thousands more than before.

Along the way I've learned to weed them out by using a few tips and investigating techniques. There are some wonderful and good paying jobs to be had if you know how to look for them.

There are quite a few virtual job boards and forums started by people that have carved new niches into a whole new world of work at home jobs. Sites like WAHM (Work at Home Mom's), Virtual Vocations, and Rat Race Rebellion, have been around for years. The administrator's and moderators of these boards take the time to investigate whether or not jobs are legit before they post them. Another added bonus is the forums for some of these boards, which are made up of people who have found great jobs working from home. They constantly share their knowledge of which jobs are the best, the ones to stay away from, and other details such as which companies are hiring now, which so called jobs to stay away from, how much a job pays and other helpful information. There is a great camaraderie on these boards and many bonds and friendships are made. My suggestion to anyone looking for real work at home jobs are to become members of some are all of these boards.

If there is an ad or an offer that you've found or heard of, and you want to check it out a little further, head on over to RipoffReport and type in the name of the company. If there any complaints or bad business practices by these companies, you can usually find it here. This site is "for consumers, by consumers", and its contributors don't hesitate
