Overcoming rejection in the work market

Expect success. Your happiness and satisfaction is your number one goal and you can have that and more. All you need is a single yes from the right prospective employer and you could be on your way to a lifetime of financial security, personal satisfaction, and a job you enjoy. Picture yourself waking up on a Monday morning, ready and excited about the week ahead. How? It's simple, just don't take no for an answer.

Focus on finding the one person who will welcome your talents with a yes and a great job offer. Colonel Sanders didn't let rejection stop him. At 65 years of age, he went door to door offering his chicken recipe at no charge to restaurant owners. All he asked in return was a percentage of the increased profits. He knocked on 1,008 doors before his offer was accepted. One smart owner agreed and the rest is history. Look at the empire Colonel Sanders built. All he needed was that single yes.

Will you be rejected? No, never you, so don't take rejection personally. You might not have the particular qualifications an employer is looking for, the timing may be wrong or someone else may have beaten you to the job. There are a lot of good reasons for being turned down, but a personal rejection is not one of them. Zero in on your talents and emphasize how they can benefit prospective employers. What can you do for them? Find the right match and your chances of success rise dramatically.

If you're turned down for a job, discover why you might not be the right candidate. Learn from each no and move on. Remember, failure shows you what didn't work and will stimulate new ideas, growth and help point you in the right direction. Thomas Edison failed over 10,000 times in his drive to invent the light bulb, but each failure taught him what didn't work. He focused on the next idea and the next, always pushing to yes, until he succeeded. You can as well.

A job search is a journey. Sure you'll hit a few detours along the way before you arrive at your destination, but you've got to keep going. The next door you approach may be the one that opens wide. You might feel down because you didn't get the job you thought you wanted. What if the next one, the one with the open door is a better one?

The journey is important. You'll likely discover things about yourself, change course in mid ocean, and find opportunities you never imagined. Be open to new ideas. Never lose sight of your goal and if you always expect success, you'll find it.
