Every child should have a cell phone. It is not only helpful, but necessary; and it will immensely provide children security while they are on their own at school.

Strangers abound around in an unfortunately predatory society scattered loosely within our city and state. This society of tolerance tends to allow its offenders to live nearby. Parents can more confidently keep track of their childs location by providing a working life line to engage their kids in proper and beneficial social communication with their family.

I have read the opinion that "the cell phone should be off during class; I disagree. The purpose for using a cell phone is to keep current on unexpected developments; this can not be accomplished if the cell phone is turned off.

I do think that this phone should have two calling numbers: one you give to your friends and one that is only for family related issues and school developments. The friends calling number should be blocked during school hours, but the family/school number should be open to receive important calls.

The problem with cell phones like most other technological developments is social. There should be a cell phone that is designed to be used by the student. The very expensive I-phone should not be allowed in high school or elementary school. Kids know that they can pawn this cell phone for money and that alone makes the risk of stealing it very likely.

The problem is that children need cell phone use in this devious society; they are mind calming for parents and convenient to consult with anyone through. They are as much a resource as food. The availability of pay phones is uncertain and dysfunctional since many are not serviced regularly and may not have a dial tone. They are dirty, used by drug peddlers, transfer germs to open wounds, and solict a degraded public moral of decency.

This also attracts a lower social class of people within the vicinity to conduct a defamatory underground business within the neighborhood of an upper class which thrives on much better principles. The cell phone is meant to enhance ones learning experience; it is the same as getting information to your finger tips by using a computer. The computer is a phone network with visual interface.

The cell phone can excite the learning potential of a child also since he is given to control his world by that much a greater margin. Since learning is about scheduling ones time and arranging to practice success, this cell phone can provide an opportunity to contact a peer, organize, and plan for this to occur. In this dysfunctional society there are few assurances that one can rely on; owning a cell phone permits one to obtain a reliable method of maintaining ties and sustaining ones confidence that no matter what situation arises(as long as a signal is available) one can counteract and influence his own resolve. Today's society requires that kind of resolve. What is the monthly affordable rate for your peace of mind?
