Reflections: How do I know if I'm born for greatness?

by Pope

Created on: June 08, 2008

This article has to be a joke. You can't just KNOW that you're born for greatness. It's not like you're just sitting there one day eating Gummy Bears and watching Indiana Jones and suddenly the thought erupts into your mind, "Wait a second....I AM A GOD AMONGST MORTALS!" If that thought ever, EVER happens to cross your mind, seek therapy. In fact, if you do happen to have that thought, call you therapist before you even finish thinking the thought.

But let's suppose that there are ways to just KNOW that you are the Lord of Lords (not God in this case, however) and that you are destined for "greatness".

I guess the first sign would be that when you're born the doctor that delivers you resigns a day after, saying that he's finally delivered the perfect baby, and can die knowing that his life is complete.

Next I'd say that if you came out of the womb and reprimanded the nurse for poor sanitation habits, you might end up being someone special. Or if a bright, blinding light appeared in the room, and God says, "This kid is gonna be special". That might sorta be a kick in the face of sorts, as far as the obvious goes.

If you ever find yourself walking down the street and people drop whatever they're doing and bow to you, you might wanna consider going into politics. Or if Harrison Ford acknowledges you in any given situation, that's a sure sign that you're gonna be more than special. And then there's the far more obvious, like traffic parts for your car, on a rainy day a little bubble of sunshine follows you around, when you talk to people they simply stare and ask how you got to be so amazing, if lightening strikes you and you simply walk it off and continue on you're way to go swimming, if you get hit by a truck and the truck looks worse than you afterwards, if you can get away with saying "That was a close shave," at any time you please, I could go on forever.

But you can't really just KNOW that you're gonna be great. Because greatness isn't simply placed in your hands. Sure, you might get lucky and be born into very convenient circumstances (i.e. You're filthy rich, you're the son of a King, you know someone famous, you are good looking for the camera), but the simple truth is, if you want to be TRULY great, like Alice Cooper Great or John Paul Jones Great, you've gotta work yourself until you think you're gonna fall apart and melt away, and then when you feel like that you've gotta push it and work more. I mean, John Paul Jones was commanding a ship that was basically sinking against a British ship that was in pristine condition, and when he was asked to surrender his hopeless fight, he laughed it all off and said, "I have not yet begun to fight,". Then he went on to capture the ship that asked him to surrender, and won the battle. With his sinking ship. You think greatness like that comes naturally? Not a chance. He worked to win that battle, and now his actions and name are forever etched in history

So there you have it. I hope this helps everyone figure out if they're born to be great.
