On June 7, 1981 while Iraq was not suspecting a thing, the Israelis flew under their radar, bombed their reactor, and got out of there with out any time for the Iraqis to respond and defend themselves. The global response of the attack ranged from outrage, to a few private pats on the back. What we can take away and learn from this is if you are planning to successfully take out an enemy's ability to build nuclear bombs, don't let them know about it.
Today Israel has made a threat to Iran that they will take out their ability to build nuclear weapons. The problem is that it sounds more like a threat than an actual plan of action. For if they had any plans to do such a thing, do you think they would announce it? I suppose that one could argue that they were saying that in order to get the rest of the world to rise up and take notice, and do something themselves. However, one could quickly counter argue that the rest of the world is hoping that Israel will do what they did twenty-seven years ago.
Many in this country have suggested that the U.S. will attack Iran, for reasons ranging it being the right thing to do, and because President Bush wants to pull up his approval numbers. Both sides to this argument will have little difficulty pointing to news articles and opinions supporting both sides of the argument.
At the end of the day, it will come down to this. Do we have clear and solid evidence that Iran has a nuclear bomb? This is because we have reached a moment in history where no world leader of any kind will want to make a move such as the one Israel threatened to make, unless they were able to pick up the damaged bomb from the debris. Now I realize that one might think that by then it will be too late, but lets face it neither the current Israeli president of the current U.S. president have the support of their nation to make another blunder.
Now I realize that the fear here is one of nuclear war, and on the surface that is a totally legitimate fear. After all no one wants to see (or feel the effects of) nuclear war, and I am fully aware of Biblical prophecies, specifically relating to Ezekiel 38-39 that talk about the invasion of Israel from nations such as Iran. But what I also realize here is that the Bible is much more specific and detailed than what some Bible commentators suggest.
For one thing, most will agree that the invasion of Israel, as described by Ezekiel is not led by Iran but Russia. Now if I am not mistaken there is some debate about
