How to cook cabbage

Like all kinds of green leafy vegetables, cabbage must be cooked shortly in high fire to maintain its crispness and color. Cabbage maintains its food nutrients in it when cooked properly. When vegetables are overcooked, they become dull in color and the nutrients would be drained. Learning to cook vegetables is as easy as singing your favorite tune. You just have to be careful because green leafy vegetables cook easily and change color very fast when not paid attention to.

Cabbage gives us that lovely taste if properly done. It has a sweetish taste that stimulates the taste buds and keep you eating the vegetable to the last bit. Whether you are cooking for the daily meals of your family or preparing for a party, cabbage can be a good pitch in dish but must be done with care and your innovativeness. Make cabbage something to boast to your family ad friends by creating dishes they haven't tasted.

Here are some ways of cooking cabbage.

Slice cabbage thinly making sure the hard part is not included because sometimes the hard part tastes bitter. Boil water and pour over the sliced cabbage. Mix to attain an even blanching then drain. Put the drained cabbage in a platter then add a dash of black pepper powder, a little salt to taste and vinegar. Mix well and serve. If you like garlic, add garlic powder to taste. This could go well with your broiled fish or grilled chicken.

Here's another cabbage recipe.

Roll your chicken strips in cabbage leaf. Make at least eight of these rolls. Line them in a skillet. Add little water just to cover the rolls. Add tomato paste, little salt, pepper, garlic and finely chopped onions. Add grated cheese then bring to boil. Lower the fire and simmer for at least thirty minutes. Do not try to put fire to high as it will burn the cabbage. When the sauce has thickened dish it out and serve.

Try this vegetable roll.

Dice two pieces of potatoes, 4 medium tomatoes, 1 small cucumber. Prepare half a cup of green peas and corn kernels. Dice cheese and set aside. Stir fry all vegetables then add cheese. Cook for a while. Wrap the two spoonfuls of the vegetable mix in cabbage leaf and fold the edges to avoid spilling. Line the wrapped vegetables in a steamer and steam until the cabbage leaf is wilted.

Cabbage could be added to any vegetable or could be eaten alone. Cabbage is also very good when used as wrapper to other foods. Just make sure to cook it right to bring out the best taste. Any vegetable when overcooked doesn't taste good.
