A Helping Hand
Tommy Wright was a firefighter, he had won every award
His sister Theresa, worshiped his steps.... and her he fittingly adored
In a house fire.... he tragically lost his life
Saving a 10 year old freckled faced girl
His sister's spirit broken, the little girl a spared life.......
15 years passed by in a whirl......
Through highschool, then medical school....
Helping others... the young girl would always aspire.....
That little girl had grown up, and had become an ambulance driver.
One day, there happened an explosion in a nearby building
The freckled faced girl, who into a woman had grown
Picked up the receiver and called on the phone....
She asked the name of the patient she was fielding....
Theresa Wright the operator said
An echo in her head.....
Wright?
That name, sounds familiar, why can't I recall?
She looked at the woman's face, and tears started to fall....
She looked into the patients eye's....
A shaded picture, floated up on memories wings, like a butterfly
Suddenly, the driver's memories.... flooded into her head
Looking at the blazing flames, she saw nothing but red.....
No one would find her, she was beginning to dread.....
Then a face appeared through the smoke.... and this is what he said:
I've got you......
I am not letting go......
She was terrified, but from him no fear... he did show
Throughout the room, the fire had now spread
He picked her up and through the heat and the flames they fled......
With an unsure step, on a broken step he did tread
With his last bit of strength.....
He tossed her the length.... of the room
Her savior's sweet face.....
Was then erased.....
Engulfed by the flames, his spirit dead
When she came back from her thoughts.......
She looked down at this sad, sad case
The woman was gasping for breath....
Not much time left.....
She said " I can't wait to see Tommy's face....
When I go...
He's a hero you know...
For a freckled face girl, he bravely gave up his place
The driver then bent over and whispered in her ear
Your brother was a hero....
Yes, I know....
For me, pure sacrifice he did show
For, I am that little freckled face girl....
Around his strong neck, my fingers did curl....
He made me feel safe, by whispering re-assuring words
I will share them with you, as you go fly among the birds
I've got you....
I am not letting go.....
Yes, that is what your brother told me......
Some 15 years ago....
In his constant state of grace.....
Her eyes,
Filled with surprise....
Gently closed....
She left this world, with a peaceful smile upon her face
