Thoughtful Father's Day sayings

relationship as viewed well after the child has grown into a man. The well is rather full of these sayings, so I will present 10 that ring true and dear.

Alexander the Great, one of the most famous men in history, said of his father; "I am indebted to my father for living, but to my teacher for living well." He is describing that the father teaches his children to not only live, but to enjoy life to it's fullest, by living well.

Marlene Dietrich, of Hollywood fame, said this of fathers; "A King, realizing his incompetence, can either delegate or abdicate his duties. A father can do neither. If only sons could see the paradox, they would understand the dilemma." A father's best revenge is for his son to have a son.

In the Holy Bible, Exodus 20:12, it is written; "The Fifth Commandment: Honor thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which thy Lord thy God giveth thee."

Europedes chimes in with; "Lucky that man whose children make his happiness in life and not his grief, the anguished disappointment of his hopes." A father with a happy family is a lucky man, indeed. And when that family instils pride and joy in the father, the father is lucky and should know it.

The stalwart of proper human functionality, Signund Freud, said; "I cannot think of any need in children as strong as the need for a father's protection."

The author, George Herbert, said; "One father is more than a hundred schoolmasters." They do teach us more about being a person than any number of years in school ever could.

John Fitzgerald Kennedy said; "My father told me that all businessmen were sons-of-bitches, but I never believed him until now."

Jerry Lewis, the comic that brought hilarious sketches and movies, that the French just could not seem to get enough of, even after the American audiences grew tired of his slapstick comedy, said; "When I was a kid, I asked my father to take me to the zoo. He answered, "If the zoo wants you, let them come and get you."."

Frederich Nietzche, the philosopher, said; "Love matches, so called, have illusion for their father and need for their mother." A person, when looking for love, looks for the best qualities of their parents in a love relationship.

Finally, as a Canadian, and a subject of the Queen's principalities, I offer a final quote from Queen Victoria, of England; "None of you can ever be proud enough of being the child of such a father who has not his equal in this world - so great, so good, so faultless. Try, all of you, to follow in his footsteps and don't be discouraged, for to be really in everything like him none of you, I am sure, will ever be. Try, therefore, to be like him in some points, and you will have acquired a great deal."
