Finding my Wings

Not to say that I will
(not to say that I won't)
but I was thinking today
of going away,
buying a ticket and flying
down south, up north,
or over to Paris, France
Wearing sunglasses as night,
sitting at a sidewalk caf,
writing, sketching, and observing
I want to go someplace
where everyone speaks a different language
I won't understand them,
they won't understand me,
and it will be just like home.

I love cappuccinos,
eccentric people,
a book of good poetry
I love quiet places
(or places so busy that they become quiet also),
a warm French kiss,
John Coltrane's saxophone
Mostly, I enjoy
the company of people like myself
obviously,
enjoyment like this is rare, since
Understanding is limited
to what they already know.

Socrates challenged all people to question their beliefs;
to peel off the layers
of manners, expectations, empty facades
all of society's evils.
He said "Know thyself."

I do,
but no one else does,
so I'm thinking
of going away
