Why socialism cannot succeed.
Well first of all there is no such thing as pure socialism in any society today. Countries all around the globe, have governments that consist of of public owned entities such as publicly owned oil or utility companies, and social welfare programs.
So called "capitalist" countries often have more social programs than people realize. Here in the the state of California, we spend more on child care than in all 50 states combined, and in any other country in the world. To a large extent our child care program goes to provide cash to American born children, whose parents are undocumented immigrants. Free school breakfast and lunch programs have also skyrocketed in the last twenty years, consuming nearly a quarter of federal education spending in California.
In a socialist country, the government would vote to increase payroll and property taxes to pay for these increased social services. And there lies the problem. California is full of people pushing for expansion in social spending programs, without the taxpayers being necessarily willing to pay more for these services. Before Prop 13, which protects property owners passed by an overwhelming majority of voters, local governments had no spending controls on their property taxes, with tax increases reaching into double digits to fund programs. When Prop 13 came along, the largest expenditures in the budget such as education were centralized, and the in spending between poor school districts and richer districts was redistributed. The effects of this redistribution are debatable, as millions of very low income immigrants have flocked into California post Prop 13, into Southern California neighborhoods whose tax base could have never supported the level of immigration allowed by Prop 13's centralized redistribution of education spending. California is now inundated with more low income people whose advocates in Sacramento legislate more social spending programs than the United States has ever witnessed, causing great unrest, because people are being told they should be getting more services.
In the meanwhile hundreds of thousands of undocumented immigrants and low income people arrive in California every year, squeezing state and federal budgets to their breaking limit. Women who are on programs for several years are "timed out" or pushed off their programs to make room for new undocumented women piling into the state. In the end "undocumented people needing programs" are destroying their
