In A Father:
I send you my love
as only I know how.
Gently on the wings of a dove
and to set it free now.
In a fathers eyes
nothing is better than a smile.
Give him a smile that he can prize
as the one that lasted for quite a while.
In a fathers heart
the most memorable gift.
The newborn baby right from the start
is enough to make his heart lift.
In a fathers mind
he will teach you everything he knows.
Proud to see you are one-of-a-kind
as he watches you grow.
In a fathers smile
you can see all of his joy.
My gift, I became worthwhile
our lives together we did enjoy.
In a fathers arms
you know life is secure.
He keeps you from harm
of that you can be assured.
In a fathers hands
your life he will try to mold.
If you follow his plans
a good life will take hold.
In a fathers fingers
yes, even those through the years.
His touch still lingers
from wiping away my tears.
In a fathers back
so strong, with such power.
He can keep you on track
through each and every hour.
In a fathers legs
that you would follow around.
The ones you would beg
to bounce you up and down.
In a fathers feet
who's shoes you tried to fill.
You felt so complete
and really, it was quite the thrill.
In a fathers toes
even though they were so big.
We learned to count on those
on adventures with each little piggy.
I remember way back when
the little girl you knew.
Had only to grin
to see Fathers Day through.
So I send you a smile and all my love
as only I know how.
As you are now in Heaven above,
that dove will reach you somehow.
Now memory holds all of my tears
for it has been a very long time.
Can it really be thirty years
since last upon your lap I could climb?
The best that I can give
since that day thirty years ago.
To honor you every day that I live
since the day I learned to let go.
The life that I have
is thanks to mom and you.
I am so very glad
to have had such a crew.
My Fathers Day gift to you
this year, is attached to a dove.
Time I know will see me through
until I see you again in Heaven above.
I had meant to write a poem about fathers in general. But that is a very hard thing to do. On a more personal note, Happy Fathers Day dad. I love you and will give mom a kiss for you.
Happy Fathers day to all here and in Heaven above.

Poetry: Father's Day
by Shaheen Darr
This poem is for you, dearest dad
Today is father's day but you are not here
You have left us to go to another world
But you
I see you
in my children's laughter
I smell you
in a passing tendril of cigar smoke
I hear you
in the blast of a Sousa march
