The poetry I write comes from my experience, my desire to share, and my need to put into words emotions that often are almost too strong to bear without describing them in writing.

It's therapy for me, getting it all out and into the written form. A catharsis for me.
Sometimes, the words are to help others  try to understand something they may not have experienced until now.

Other times, the words are to share my own unique experience of something we have all - as humans - experienced at some point in our lives.

For me, it's always about conveying the way something makes me feel, and trying with the writing to make the reader feel what I felt when inspired to write the words.

In the end I have a creation - my own brain child as it were - and more importantly, something tangible to help me and hopefully others reconcile often troubling emotions.

After my husband died, I found it comforting to write about my memories of him. The words would just pour out of me, so I started keeping a journal again. When I felt the need to get poetic, I would refer to my journal and pull out things that felt spot on for the character of the intended poem.

The poetry seems to take on a shape of it's own in the writing. It almost has a mind of it's own, and as it grows, it can often end up a long way from its intended beginnings.

It always teaches me things. Things about myself and about the experience I chose to write about. In the end, the poem trancends the experience itself, somehow putting it into perspective and making it seem like it's all meant to be.
