How to live green by example

Anyone can do little things in everyday life to be an example for green living. When others see how easy it is to make adjustments they can pick up new habits also. Here are some handy tips.

-Change Your Bulbs
Regular light bulbs may be cheaper but they do not last as long as energy efficient light bulbs. The energy efficient bulbs reduce waste and use of electricity. There are now bulbs for every use... flood lights outside, hanging hallway light fixtures and special sized ones for ceiling fans. Show your friends and neighbors that using them lights up your home just as well as before you had them.

-Sweep Your Drive
Instead of wasting all that water by hosing off your driveway, get out there and sweep it. Everyone down the block can see how it does not kill you to get out there and get some exercise. When all is done your driveway will be clean but your water bill will be less.

-Recycle Your Trash
Instead of throwing cans, bottles, cardboard boxes and plastic into the trash, fill up your recycle bin. Be sure to recycle each week if you have a recycle trash pick up. When the neighbors see you are working on it then they will work on it too.

-Bring Your Bags
Many stores now sell their own reusable bags to replace the disposable bags. Buy them and use them. Keep them in your car so you will always have them with you when you go into the store. Increase use of them will allow people to feel less unusual for caring about the environment.

-Walk Your Way
Instead of driving to the nearby store or dropping the kids off at school, walk there. It will be good exercise. Walking will reduce pollution and save you money on the ever increasing cost of gas. Invite your neighbors to walk with you.

-Save Your Electricity
Natural light can fill a room more effectively than a light bulb during the day. So open your curtains during the day time or invest in some shades that allow light in but Nosy Nellies out. Encourage family members to turn off lights and open the drapes.

-Unplug Your Toaster
Unplugging unused appliances can save you on your electricity bill. Remind your children or spouse to "unplug when done". If you train children now it will be a habit for them when they are older.

A few simple steps can increase awareness of other to living green. In the end, it will save you money and help the environment.
