Is your life on track or have you taken a detour, become stuck in a rut or stopped at a dead end? In these busy times, most people have been racing forward with life; working, raising children, and taking care of all the to-dos on their daily lists, that they haven't had time to explore how fulfilled they are or what they truly want in life.
Answer the following questions to see how fulfilled and satisfied you are in your life. Then explore the suggestions for moving your life forward in a positive direction.
1) Write down eight key areas of your life (i.e. career, health, finances, family, relationship, friends, hobbies, exercise).
2) With each area of your life, rate how satisfied and fulfilled you are on a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being almost no satisfaction and fulfillment and 10 being completely satisfied and fulfilled.
3) For each area that you scored 6 or higher, write down the reasons you are this satisfied.
4) For each area you scored 5 or less, write down the reasons why you are not more satisfied.
Now that you have a better picture of how your life is unfolding, and how fulfilled you are in each area, it is time to discover how to bring even more satisfaction to the unfulfilled areas of your life. Explore the following suggestions for moving your life forward in a positive direction.
1) Review the areas of your life where you scored 5 or less and wrote a list reasons for not being more satisfied. With each area and list of reasons, ask, "How did I create this or contribute to this?"
2) Now with each of these areas imagine how you would like them to be. Then ask, "What is one thing I can do to move in this direction?"
3) Create an action plan; write down the one thing you can do in each area to improve your life. Make note of when you will do this, how often you will do it, and what will indicate its success.
4) At the beginning of each week, review your action plan and your progress. If the one step you wrote down is complete, write down another step you can now take including the when, how often, and the success indicator.
Once you've begun consciously taking positive steps toward your goals you will feel more alive and fulfilled in all areas of your life. And whenever you notice you are taking a detour, you can re-route yourself at any time.
