Why the best Father's Day gifts aren't the most expensive

It is been wisely said that you cannot put a price on love and this applies aptly to the gift a child gives to his father. The gift can be bought or it can be made at home but the feelings that went into the giving of the gift have no comparison to the size or price of it.

For most parents their child's happiness and success is the best gift they can receive from them. The parent child bond is for life, not just for one day so the celebration continues throughout your lives. The one day that you choose to remind your parent of that love should therefore not be based on any monetary factor but on the relationship that you both are enjoying now and hopefully in the future. This gift, no matter how small or inexpensive, should be thoughtful, as sometimes just a well worded greeting card can be priceless and if it is handmade then it will be even more special.

If you are lucky you will have plenty of years to celebrate Father's day with your father and these years will span from when you are a toddler until the time that you yourself are a parent. The range of gifts that you give will change as they reflect your own growing up years and the way your father and his interests are changing. Toddlers love making and creating things with their own hands and some of the best inexpensive gifts are given in these young years. The hand made cards, the pictures painted, the bookmarks made or the pots made especially for dad with their own hands will be something that has a special place in his heart and they will be priceless as most of these are kept for years to come.

As the toddler becomes a teenager and starts earning his own money the gifts are now bought rather than made. There is a whole range of gifts that are thoughtful and yet they are very affordable for most young people. Books come to mind as they cover such a vast range of topics from sports and biographies to thrillers. There is bound to be one that will interest your father. If he has been interested in learning a language or he is going for a trip to another country get him a travel guide or an easy language learning book that will help him learn a bit more about this country. Books make a wonderful gift for anyone and can be read or refered to for many a years.

Music CDs or DVDs are also affordable for most children and a great gift for any father. Some other gifts that come to mind are things like an desk tidy, a calendar , a diary, a good writing pen or a jotter for his 'to do' lists. These are small gifts that are handy or useful to help him organise his life a bit better. Key chains, tea mugs with humorous quotes on them or a photo frame with the family photo in it for his desk are good gifts that wont break your bank.

It is spending time together on that day which can make it special for him. If you lead busy lives then make time to see him and do something together. It might be going out for a simple meal somewhere or watching a film together at home that he will enjoy or you can cook something for him and eat together at home. This is a simple gift for anyone but the thought and the love behind the action is what makes it priceless. In the hectic lives that most young people lead these days their parents are sometimes forgotten and it is your presence that will be most appreciated by them especially if they are elderly. Don't just send an expensive gift in the post but make an effort to personally hand the card to your father and spend quality time with him. Love costs nothing and yet it is the most valued and sought after thing in the world.
