The third Sunday in June is quickly approaching, which means that Father's Day is upon us. Stumped at what to get Dad this year? The following will outline some of the most popular Father's Day gifts, and help you determine the best choice for your dear old Dad. NECKTIE Let's start with the quintessential Father's Day gift: the necktie. Also in this category are dress shirts, sweaters, socks, etc. Items in the realm of clothing can be a good idea IF you have a really good idea of your Dad's style, size, and needs. This type of gift is best kept to every few years or more, and should not be attempted if you've still never seen Dad wear those argyle socks or that cartoon character necktie you bought him years ago. Best for: The Fashion-Forward Dad WATCH If the face of your father's watch is so scratched he's having difficulty determining the time, or he's still wearing the blingy, gold timepiece from his roller disco days, it may be time for an upgrade. Try to pick something simple and classic that could be worn for a variety of occasions. Don't do diamonds unless you KNOW he'll love them. Consider the material it is made of with relevance to when he'll wear it. Shiny silver may look nice, but will be easily scratched if worn daily by a construction worker Dad. It could be better to get a leather band with a scratch resistant face. The best part of this gift he'll think of you whenever he checks the time. Best for: All Dads, but especially the Punctual Pops SPORTING GOODS Whether he's into a classic like golf, or an adventure sport like rock climbing, sporty Dads are sure to appreciate a gift that shows your support for his passion. Keep his skill level in mind when choosing a gift; i.e. don't get him the pro snow skis if he's just a beginner, or you may soon have a Dad with a broken leg on your hands. Sporting goods come in all price ranges, from a box of golf tees to a full set of clubs, so you're sure to find a great gift for any budget. Another great idea: get Dad a sports gift the whole family can enjoy together, like a basketball goal or volleyball net. Best for: The Sporting Dad GADGETS Can your Father explain the difference between a gigabyte and a megabyte? Does he know that the Playstation III also plays Blueray Discs, and why this is a good thing? There are many options for the gadget loving Dad. Thankfully, for those of us who still can't figure out how to reset the time on the VCR, there are many helpful salespeople in any electronics store that
