Writing comes easy to some people, harder to others. Writing down the first word seems to be the difficult part. Once I started writing, it got easier and easier to write. To write down everything, all the pain, the fear, the anxiety, the sadness. Us writing as a tool for healing. Grab a pen or pencil, or computer and just start writing down what hurts. I've been writing down my feelings for years. Sometimes it's the only way I can figure out things. My family was very dysfunctional. I had five brothers and three sisters, seven of which were older. My childhood was full of grownup siblings who were all messed up. My father was an alcoholic and my mother used us as protective shields at times, fearing abuse by my father. I never knew of him ever striking her, but they sure yelled at each other a lot! My father challenged each brother whenever he had too much to drink. Sometimes there were some very close calls. My brothers all grew up to be alcoholics. Every one of them had to have a doctor threaten death in order to make them quit drinking. My sisters weren't alcoholics but had terrible relationships. All of us have been married at least twice. Anyway, my point is, writing it down helps make me feel better. Even if it hurts, write it down. The more I write, the better I feel. If you are afraid someone will read what you have written, write it down and get rid of it! It's only a therapy to help you. Not something to use to hurt others. This may give you the courage to actually confront some of your issues. Writing it down helps you think and consider things you could do to improve situations for the future. Reading books on healing helps too. I read self-help books frequently. Sometimes I just search this section in the bookstore to see what titles sound interesting. I run across the most interesting reading this way. I enjoy writing now more than I ever have before. There are so many ways to express yourself in writing. Helium gives me experience trying new types of writing and I enjoy spreading my wings! Once you feel better, try writing something fun. Maybe a short story, a poem, a song, whatever you feel like trying. Everyone needs to try whatever it takes to bring happiness into your life. You have to like yourself before anyone else can like you. Believe what you believe. Make it positive and things will change before you know it. Write, read and enjoy!
