Improving the fuel economy of your car

Apparently people are as alergic to the truth as they are to toxins in their home. When it comes to increasing the mileage of an automobile from, one that is from the manufacturer you are singing to deaf ears. You cannot rob Peter to pay Paul! Manufacturers design vehicles to get "X" amount of miles per gallon according to their size wieght and function! There is no magic bullet or magic potion you can add to significantly increase the MPG of an existing vehicle without replacing Control Modules and or Computer Operating Programs.

For instance, a 9,000 pound F-250 4X4 Crew Cab with a fuel injected 460 will get 14 MPG. It will get this mileage when it is new and under warranty, and please understand that I am not a smart allick with a cocky sense of humor. I am a Factory Certified Diesel Mechanic and Main Propulsion Engineer. During my 22 years as a Professional Mechanic/Engineer I recertified and maintained the most current accreditation possible. It was my livelyhood. I truly wish there was some magic potion that could help you get better mileage, but again there is not! Maintanance and moderate driving habits will improve and or prolong the life of an engine.

How you can increase or improve the mileage per gallon of the vehicle you own? There are several simple ways to improve the miles per gallon depending on size of the vehicle, weight of the vehicle, and total vehicle mileage. 1.) Be sure that the engine is tuned properly to the best possible performance for the mileage that is on the vehicle. Dirty spark plugs, bad and or worn plug wires, cracked and or fouled distributor cap, malfunctioning Engine control modules, Power train control modules and other sensor components can reduce over all MPG. 2.) Oil and oil filters can have minor initial effects but over the long haul by making sure there is clean oil and filters it will extend the longevity of the engine and increase its peak performance as the miles add up. 3.) Maintain and always keep a clean air filters in the vehicle. Less air makes its way through the filter when it is dirty and the poorer the air flow the poorer the MPG, Miles Per Gallon. Another thing about air filters is damage. A slight amount of damage can allow dirt to pass through and dirt causes serious damage to the rings and valves. Damaged rings allow oil to burn in the combustion chamber and foul the plugs. This will also increase NOX, Nitrates of Oxygen to form in the crank case and cause it to plug the PCV, Positive crank case Ventilation
