Poetry: The ocean

by Vivian Edwards

Created on: June 04, 2008   Last Updated: February 26, 2011

My mind travels cowardly full of tearful emotion
When I wonder about the deep parts of the ocean
The bathyal, abyss and hadal
The cavernous zones they frighten me

I can't comprehend the depth at the bottom of the sea
I wonder way down deep at the bottom
In that which are called the zones
Is there is a cry from deep within and a subterranean moan?

The bottomless sea
Only darkness
Mysterious and obscure
Immense crushing pressure
Mostly unknown and so feared by me

What is hiding in the mid oceanic trenches?
The zones we hear about
Continuous cold no growth can be
The deep regions that lay at the bottom of the sea
The fear it grips me to my soul
The waves they overcome me
Hurricanes and high winds within me
The fear it grips me to my soul

The bottomless sea
Where there is no light
Unexplained to a great degree
Where aquatic life struggles to survive
No light, no growth just nothingness
No days, no nights
Blindly living life
No need to see
No black, no color, no white
Nothing but the darkest of dark
