Budget Do-It-Yourself Decorating

In terms of decorating our homes, of course we would all like to have the designer drapes, the designer color scheme, the custom look and feel, etc. Who wouldn't want to have the elegance and sophistication that designer decorating brings? Decorating on a budget does not have to be "cheap". After all, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I have seen some very "expensive" designs that leave a lot to be desired in terms of comfort sacrificed for style or "expensive elegance" that seems to lack simple color coordination.

To begin, all you need is inspiration. This is simple and yet can be the beginning of a very inviting space for you to enjoy. Is there an item that you have not been able to throw away? Something you keep in a closet or drawer, perhaps, that you bring out every now and then to give you a little happiness? You can begin with that, or you can simply take out a favorite magazine ad that seems to make your eyes linger when you see it. You can take your inspiration piece right to the paint store for them to match or you can choose a shade by holding your inspiration piece next to the many paint chips that are on display at paint stores. You might even want to bring along a picture of your existing furniture with you so you can look at it as you choose a paint color. Always keep in mind that you need not just paint all the walls the same color. You can always choose an "accent" wall to paint with your chosen color. An "accent" wall is a wall that draws the eye upon entering the room; it may contain a fireplace, a large
