I was diagnosed with dissociative identity disorder(DID) in 1999, formerly known has multiple personality disorder. I have approximately ninety-three different personalities. Some are considered fragments. This means that they hold maybe just one memory. I then have fully formed personalities. I am the host personality, which is the alter, or this can be the original ego, who is present the majority of the time. My main role is to protect the main ego, and everyone else inside.

Everyone of us has a role. That role can seem simple, has to washing dishes, or be very complex. I for instance, besides being a protector, work has a socializer, an organizer and a communicator. We all work together in our system to be has efficient has possible. It is as if we are CE O's of a company, and the company is this one body.

We have many protectors. They also play different roles. A few of us are able to be co-conscious. Catherine is able to do so. She watches many conversations with people and makes up reports, organizes them, and provides them to the proper alter. We do not like that term. Has for doctor's appointments, Catherine reports to Tristan. He knows the majority of the bodies health history. He also does his own research.

Tristan is also attending school with a major in psychology. He is extremely interested in how the mind works. We have a president, if you will, who finalizes the major decisions such has where we will live. If it were not for him, there would be a constant civil war. Baby spies on everyone. He knows many things about all of us. If we need information ASAP, then we go to him. It does cost us though(but usually only some change.) So, has you can see, the children in our system also play major roles.

Sara is very young. She provides us with motivation and a distinct drive. When we feel like giving up on something that we should not, she provides the drive to get the job done. Jasper provides play time. That is his role. He is four and very innocent. I think that adults need play time also.

There are some alters who hold anger, and others who hold grief. Some are wise beyond their years. I have been told many times that I have an old soul. If it were different, and I were a singleton, I would not have the insight in life that I do today. I feel grateful that I do.

Callie has provided new insight into our current life situation. He has given us a fresh perspective on life in general. He has a take charge attitude. He also does not take life, or himself to seriously. That is a lesson that I hope to learn from him.

There are many roles in a person who has DID. Protector is my specialty. But each role serves a vital purpose in maintaining the balance that we need to survive, and hopefully thrive.
