PENTHOUSE ROMANCE
We stood side by side, eyes never quite meeting, silence like a wet blanket settled over us. My heart raced, not knowing whether to speak or smile or continue to ignore him. He cleared his throat. Was he going to at least say 'good morning'?
No, nothing more followed that brief noise. I looked up and from the corner of my eye, I saw him do the same. Mesmerized by the display before us, we held our tongues.
Ding!
Would this torture never end? It seemed as though we had been standing like this for hours. Why couldn't I bring myself to acknowledge his presence? Why couldn't he do the same for me? Were we so different? Was there so little to be said?
Was it the beating of my heart or his I fancied filled the space between us? He was tall - very tall, a good foot taller than my five feet seven inches.

My eyes steadfastly riveted on the numbers above the doors.
Ding!

Ding!
"Are you alright?" If a voice can melt a soul, mine melted that very moment. His was like
