Step into the boots of a cat and be prepared to do a bit of reading as you embark on a role playing mission to save the world from aliens. This game plays like many other role playing games and is reminiscent of games like Pokemon for Gameboy. In order to make progress in this game you walk around to different rooms, buildings, and places and interact with many different NPCs (Non-player characters) to get clues. Progress in this game is fairly quick, there is always something to do and lots to explore.
Much like other games, you need to collect coins and free lives, gain keys and key-cards, and pick up objects that will help you on your journey to save the world and free your friends. In Mr. Smoozles Goes Nutso, some map memorizing is required and it can be a little repetitive at some points. This game is definitely not too easy or mindless to play. It requires you to do some problem solving, participate in mini-missions, avoid moving objects, as well as that cat with a laser-gun. The graphics in this game are decent. The cartoonish comic book style of the graphics goes well with the plot and type of game play that this game offers.
There are many creative and interesting settings and NPCs and the written content is often amusing if you don't just click through without reading it. The music is also up to par with other games and has a kind of old-school NES (Nintendo Entertainment System) quality to it, however, the lack sound effects and voices leave a little to be desired. There is sufficient in-game help if you need it and the secondary function button helps to describe what various objects do in the game. Because this game is not really based on violence or enemies it lacks a little action as there is no attack function. In Mr. Smoozles Goes Nutzo, you can save your game at any time. This is helpful in saving your progress and preventing prolonged playtime; there is no feeling that you have to finish a level before you stop playing.
Overall, although this game lacks a little action, it has a very addictive quality and it is definitely a game a would consider buying for only 19.99. I give this game a 4/5 for its ability to combine original content with tested and proved gaming conventions.
