You know the feeling. It's a Friday afternoon. You've been stuck in the office for what seems like all day. You look eagerly over at the clock above the water cooler to see how long you have left before you can go home for the weekend, and...it's only 2:30. Sigh. The boss is out of the office, you've already eaten lunch and made endless cups of coffee and there's absolutely no work for you to do. Time seems to be standing still. So, how are you going to get through the next three hours without going insane?
Here are my Top Ten boredom-busters for when you're next having one of those days.
1. Sign up to one of those social networking sites. Make interesting new friends and catch up with old ones you haven't seen in years. These websites are so addictive you can be on them for hours - playing games, looking through people's photos or even just chatting.
2. Book tickets to that concert you're desperate to go to. Or look for cheap flights and hotel deals for your next holiday. This will also lift your mood as you daydream about seeing your favourite band live or sunning yourself in an exotic location.
3. Plan your weekend. Browse restaurants, theatres and/or nightclubs you might like to visit. Email your friends to see whether they have any ideas, or spend the afternoon gossiping via instant messenger.
4. Type 'brain training' into a search engine and have fun playing games while simultaneously giving your mind a workout and increasing your IQ.
5. Check out the online dating sites. Sign up to one if you're brave enough and see how many replies you get! You might even meet that special someone, or at least bag yourself a date.
6. Do something useful like sorting out your money with online banking, or anything else that needs to be done that you don't usually have time for.
7. Shopping! Skip the supermarket and do the weekly shop from the (relative) comfort of your office chair or treat yourself to a new dress, bag or pair of shoes from your favourite clothing website.
8. Watch funny videos. Keep the sound turned down low or off, and don't laugh too loudly or you'll get caught. And don't watch dirty videos unless you want to get yourself fired!
9. Have email conversations with your co-workers. Send flirty messages to that person you secretly fancy.
10. Last but not least, log into Helium to read some of the plethora of fascinating articles on all subjects under the sun. Write some of your own, and you'll look like you're hard at work!
Follow these tips and your working day should be a bit more interesting than usual!
