In 1949, United States congress enacted the National Flag Day Bill. The Bill accredits the American Flag worthy of celebrating on its very own day; June 14th. June 14th commemorates the anniversary on which the stars and stripes of the American flag were adopted in 1777, becoming the symbolic banner for the United States.
In light of celebrating our American Flag I offer this inspirational Flag Day poem.
The American in You
Celebrate your flag
this fourteenth day of June
Commemorating the stars and stripes
it bears so opportune
Exalting proudly in the wind
it swells with yesteryear
Proclaiming of our nations past
for all Americans to cheer
Through its spectrum of colors
our flag demands respect
Unified red, white, and blue
like the sun it does direct
Blue conveys the daylight
of our shining vigilance
As well as the American flame
that justice represents
From the daylight, gleams the rays
the first one being red
A blazing radiation
denoting soldier blood was shed
Let us not forget the courage
shone through the beam of white
Our forefathers withstood
in the face of plight
Thirteen striated, radiant stripes
score our original colonies
Founded by those who voyaged
across the mighty seas
Fifty stars does our flag now don
one for every state
And millions of Americans
to three colors they relate
Proudly yes, we do hail
to the red, white, and blue
And all our flag does stand for;
the American in you
So honored, by our flag's presence
we meet hand to heart
During the Pledge of Allegiance
or while our Anthem we impart
Not just for our history
but for tomorrow and today
For the soldiers fighting for us now
As our country they convey
Where-ever flag, you do fly
esteem will not wear thin
As we know where you're going
and exactly where you've been
Celebrating you, flag
this fourteenth day of June
Commemorating the stars and stripes
you bear so opportune
Officially adopted
in Seventeen-seventy-seven
To symbolize America
like the vault of heaven
Proudly yes, we do hail
to your red, white, and blue
And to you flag, what you stand for;
the American in you
In observance of Flag Day or "National Flag Week," United States citizens are encouraged to fly the American Flag in honor of their country and for the men and women who have served, and are currently serving in the military. Please show your American pride.
