Effective Study Habits for College Students
Developing effective study skills is the most powerful tool that a college student can have while getting an undergraduate degree. It takes a great deal of will power in order to be the very best that you can be during your years in college. This is the ammunition that you need to take on the onslaught of assignments, test, pop-quizzes and term papers. Through constant trail and error, I myself have found out that these tip and tricks help me to e a better student in school.
FIRST, PLAN AND ORGANIZE YOR TIME. This is one of the most important things that you have to do for all of your courses. Just take the time over the weekend and write down all of your classes and the times that which you attend them. Then factor in your study time so that it correlates with your class time. You will find that the first 20 to 30 minutes after every class is crucial in going over the notes and looking refreshing your mind over the material that is needed for your class. Just remember, if your professors and teachers have a schedule, and you're an aspiring professional in your particular major, then you must plan and organize everything so it will flow smoothly.
READ THE CHAPTERS EARLY. This step, much like planning and organizing, is another very crucial one. You must develop strong reading habits and read at least a chapter and a half ahead of time. This will avoid any procrastination or apathetic feelings that you many have towards preparing for your class. Remember, your professor may call upon you to answer some questions that they have through the material. Or, you may get sick, or have to go out of time for an emergency. So reading ahead of time puts you right on time with what the lessons that the professors may give out. Now since this is the age of computers and internet, you can notify the professor ahead of time of any activities that you may encounter and you can request to know what the material that you have to read. Sometimes, you may have to read more or less, but it is always good to be on your guard and prepare by reading the material ahead of time.
USE 3x5" INDEX CARDS. While reading and studying, make out your notes on 3x5" index cards. This can help you study more effectively and condenses all of the notes and material that you have to study in shorter more easy to manage notes that you can review a section at a time.
