Millions of people are always looking for a quick fix for weight loss. Inspired by show like "The Biggest Loser," they think that they too can lose up to 20 lbs. in a week. The quest often begins by spending thousands of dollars on products and gadgets seen on the Internet or an infomercial. However, in the end, none of these items work as well as they would like them to work. Either the customer gets frustrated because they don't get the results they see on television, or in the case of exercise programs, they quit out of boredom. People forget that old say about anything worth having takes hard work. The only way to lose weight for a long term period is to work hard and get the mindset that this is a lifestyle change not a temporary change.
There are so many diet pills and supplements advertised on television and the Internet that people think that these products really work. In reality, they often cause more weight gain after a person stops taking them. I know this from personal experience. From the ages 18 to 22, I was constantly taking diet pills. The sad reality was that I wasn't the products advertised; they were prescribed by my doctor. Even when I was within my weight range, I was able to get prescriptions. In the end, they only harmed my body. Once I stopped taking the pills, I gradually put the weight back on, even though I was exercising. I started having other biological issues, like constipation, liver damage and embarrassing hair growth in certain places. There is also that temptation when I feel like I'm not seeing the results I want.
People who don't take pills often have a garage or basement filled with every exercise program imaginable. They think that magically they will look as good as the people in the infomercial or the instructors on the programs. People forget, however, that many of the instructors have been in shape most of their lives, or have been working on their bodies for a number of years. Individuals also forget that the people who've used the programs to lose weight also eat balanced diets to get the results.
Even on television shows like the "Biggest Loser," the contestants are in a controlled environment without the outside influences seen in everyday life. So, it is easier to live when all of the temptations aren't staring you in the face. It doesn't hurt that cameramen are watching your every move. So, yes, they will lose weight easier than a person who has to go to work and be confronted by office parties and vending machines. Yet, if individuals look critically at this show in particular, notice that even in a controlled setting, not everyone sheds pounds at the same rate. There are times on the show that a person works out constantly for a week and only loses one pound. That same week, another person loses 25 lbs.
Basically, everyone loses weight at their own rate and no amount of quick fixes will change that. Besides, people who try taking the easy way out often end up heavier than they started. So, no it is not easy to lose weight the right way.
