Short stories: A cat's perspective on life

What's that? I hear something. I know that sound, it's the sound of my pets. They must be waking up and I know what that means, it's time to eat. I'll just go down stairs and stand my my bowl as I do everyday. I like that life is predictable.

My bowl is empty! What they came into the kitchen and left! How dare they! I will just go and remind them of there duties. They can't treat me like this. What could have gotten into them?

There you are. Wow what's this room? I have not explored this room before. It's always closed. Oh my goodness! What's THAT noise? Look out! I think there is a strange animal in here. It is growling, or howling, I'm not sure which. Don't pick it up it might bite you. Well now it's quiet. Maybe it is not so dangerous. Now the only thing growling is my stomach.

I must remind them. I'll just tap them on the leg here. Whoa! Hey don't kick me! Some pets are so irrational. I'll just go lay by my bowl. Maybe I should go out and get a mouse. This definitely is not fast food service. I'll take a nap till they arrive.

Wow that was the craziest dream. More like a night mare. Look there's food in my dish. Good it really was just a nightmare. Life is back to predictable. Now that I am full I think another nap is in order. Off to the cushy couch for me.

Look at that they even left a blanket on the couch for me. I have them so well trained. This blanket is kind of lumpy. I'll just smooth it out. OH NO! There's that sound again. My ears they hurt. Oh here comes my pet to stop that sound for me. Good pet. What? Smacked again. What did I do? You put this blanket out for me didn't you?

Oh no, it wasn't a nightmare. There it is, the animal, my nightmare. What do they see in that thing. He's ugly and makes lots of noise. He has no soft fir, like I do, and ever since he got here I've notices a strange odor. I think someone needs to show him how to bury his poop.

Now where do I sleep? I know I'll sleep in here. New room needs to be catified. A little rub here, and a little rub there, and now it smells a little better. This bed seems pretty comfy too. Hopefully no one bothers me now. A cat needs his naps. That is why they call them cat naps, isn't it?

I hear her coming. I'll just duck under this blanket. You can't see me. Wait she's walking away. Phew! That was close. I thought I'd have to move again. It's getting hot under here though. I'll just peek my head out. Okay....what's that? Oh it's the animal. It's sleeping. Maybe I could investigate. Quietly...shhhhh. Hmmm, smells like a pet. There's the end with the poop problem. Wow, nothing cute about that. Looks kinda like a pet too. Oh I get it, it's there kitten. Well all pets are here to serve me. There's his hand, one final test maybe he wants to pet me. I'll just stick my head under here. Ouch! Ouch! He's got me! Someone help. Oh no don't make that noise. Your hurting me, I didn't do anything. She's gonna come and think I did something. Must get away. Good under here seems safe.

Now she's here. I hope she can quiet that beast. The doors open, I'm making a break for it. Made it. I think it will be safer in the basement.

That kitten is terribly bossy. Just you wait little guy, the tides will change, and I will take over again. One day you will be my pet too.
