I was young once
I crawled on all fours like a dog
when I got older I could stand on two feet
I could run and climb
Now I'm on three legs,
a cane to prop me up so I don't fall
I sit alone in this place for the ancient ones
Sometimes family visits
usually they don't, they have lives to live
as I did
I have many good memories and stories to tell
if someone would listen
My mind is strong
my body frail
I feel the same as I did when I was young
I think the same
only wiser
my memories of the past are like yesterday
my memories of today are long gone
I know what others my age must feel
I wish I had written my memories down for my children
to pass on through time
I tell them of history and time and
days gone by
I feel lost
Sometimes I cry
Sometimes I laugh
I miss the past
Time stands still at times
and other times it races by
At times there is simple joy in the sounds around me
they bring back the faint perfume of when I was dating
when I married
when I had my children
when I lost my parents
when I found myself
when I found God
I feel something else
but I don't know what it is
Only time will tell
Meanwhile I live
every day

Tell Me Again What You Can't See
Across this land, hearts are hurting

Down all that we hold

How can I escape from envy, shame and strife

Lost in a sea of faces.
All alone in the crowd.
No one turns an ear,
Though I scream out loud.
