As a girl gamer myself, I can say with confidence that I'm not to be underestimated. I have been playing video games since I could hold a controller, starting back when the original Pac-Man was only four years old. I've always been fascinated by how by just by moving the joystick and pressing the buttons, I could control the little round yellow thing on screen to eat those dots.
Nowadays, with the games on the Sony Playstation, the Nintendo Wii and Microsoft XBox, the graphics just keep getting cooler and that continues to further attract women. These games are like interactive movies, complete with plots, subplots, likeable and hateable characters. From the fantastical Final Fantasy series to the lowdown and violent Grand Theft Auto, there is an appeal for everyone.
My personal preference is Grand Theft Auto, one of the games that appear to be more marketed towards men and boys. But after a long day at work, there are few good stress relievers such as breaking out an Uzi and going hog wild...and knowing that no one is actually getting hurt after all. There is an odd thrill to be had by getting in a fast (and would probably be expensive if it were real) sports car and just going over jumps, making it roll over and do just about anything to it that would cause it to alight on fire and blow like a huge bomb in under five minutes. Or, such as in San Andreas, get on a dirt bike, drive to the hilled areas and just drive off the edge at full speed. It's even better to try that with a big screen TV.
Competition wise, we can be highly aggressive. If I'm in a racing game with you, such as Need For Speed (I *so* rule Underground!), be prepared to drive into the wall as I draft behind you to pick up speed and then give you a little of what I call a "love tap" and send you spinning, leaving you to eat my dust as I take my souped up Dodge Neon to the finish line. If we're in a combat game such as Tekken (King's my guy), I will lay on you with all the moves, from basic kicking and punching to any character special moves until there is absolutely no way your character is getting up and I see "TKO" (or whatever the game in particular uses) across the screen.
I've played against guy gamers and I've played against girl gamers and frankly, there is not much of a difference. Some guys are good and some are bad. Same with the girls. It's all on the individual how their skills are. Some are laid back and just like to chill with the basic stuff. Others go all out with guidebooks, cheat codes, Code Breaker CDs, the works. I fall into the latter catagory. So you wanna play with me? Grab that DuelShock and let's roll!
