When I started writing this there was one movie that popped into my head first, 30 Days of Night and what a visual pleasure it was. What I will do is list some of my favorite horror flicks of 2007. Now I have seen people put movies like 1408, Vacancy, Grindhouse and even I Am Legend on their lists, but to me these are more of the Thriller Genre and not Horror as I think of Horror movies.
Horror is (to me); BLOOD and GUTS, frightening, brutal death scenes and down right give me the covers and close my eyes tense feeling. I know Hollywood is re-defining horror as thrillers, but not me, so that is how my list came to be.
30 Days of Night visually awesome. Throw away beautiful vampires and give me the blood sucking creatures we all know they would be if they existed. This movie delivers BLOOD and GUTS and frightening.
Halloween Rob Zombie, need I say more, I love his vision. I believe Zombie loves horror as John Carpenter does so any year there is a best of movie he made a movie in that same year he will make my list (did you understand that, I hope so). This movie delivers brutal death scenes, the beating noise will ring in your ears for days.
Captivity This movie took me by surprise and I was more than pleased to be jumping up and literally waiting for what they would do next. This movie delivers frightening characters and a beginning that will make you.let's just say don't eat!
The Mist Ahhh Stephen King the master of written horror, how they hack up his vision, but The Mist was great. Maybe because the book was a short story and pretty straight forward they didn't have time to lose King's vision. Rent this one, even if you don't like King books to movies, this one you will respect. This movie delivers scary moments and that tense feeling that you know something is going to happen.
Hatchet I already wrote a full view on this movie and it began with one word, WOW! I love this movie, it's a total throwback to the old 80's blood and guts and I loved every insane minute of this one. This movie delivers BLOOD and GUTS, and more blood.
Saw IV Can we possibly have a horror list that doesn't include a Saw movie? Well I can't, I think the Saw series in brilliant and I loved the fourth as much as the first, so here it is and I think you all know why it's on my list. Enjoy, be grossed out and don't eat before hand!
Penny Dreadful - (Release date is debatable, I didn't know about this until FearNet in January 2007 so it's on my list). This is a movie where I had to pause three times because my heart was beating so fast I had to take a break. I have not felt the tense feeling within myself while watching a movie since I was a kid. This movie delivers that cover your eyes and tense feeling.
