well i took a trip this summer back down to where i grew up
i don't remember it all that well because i was only a child
but its nice to know that i was still remembered in that old little town
and when i came across my old boys and girls that night we got a little wild

and that boy said "it sure is nice to see you back in north Carolina"
and i said "yeah its great to be back on this old beach of east Carolina"
and thats where we started talking and dancing and got caught back up from where we left off
that night was filled with summer love

and that night was filled with romance and laughter
and i hated to see that night go to waste
that night filled with summer love when he took me back to his loft
and gave me my first kiss filled with summer love

he said "i hope i get to see you again before you leave"
i said "i am going back home to Kentucky but always remember me"
i took me by the hand the next day and said "i will always remember you"
he gave me his necklace and i told i promise i wouldn't leave

he kissed me on my cheek and a tear fell from my eye
he asked me what was wrong and i told him i don't want to go
then we pulled out a pen and wrote on my hand his address told me to keep in touch
and then he said "you will always be my summer love i hope you know"
i am his summer love
