Tomorrow you will become
just another page in
the book of past ages
to be dredged up
from time to time
for perusal, always edged
with a hint of longing
for what might have been
had I been different
or you were more
than you were more
than you are - and then,
with an empty sigh
to be packed upon a shelf
for future reference -
a condensed journal
of how not to be,
what can not work -
two people who loved
and tried - but were
destined to be strangers,
uncompromising in their beliefs,
not willing to understand
and accept each other's
essences, differences
and essential uniqueness.
